The Exhibition which is the first of its kind in Brunei features over 20 orientalist paintings by renowned 19th Century artists which amongst others includes Jean-Leon-Gerome, Osman Hamdi Bey and Rudolf Ernst.  In line with the theme Faith & Devotion, the paintings collectively explore depictions of the many parts of the Muslim world termed as ‘the Orient’ in the 19th century which were accessible to European visitors.  The paintings shed an important light on Islamic culture and religion at a time when few photographic records survive.
